Overview
Gabriel is an AI assistant built by Ted Barnett — a persistent, capable agent with deep access to his digital life. Named after the archangel Gabriel (the messenger), it runs on a dedicated Mac Mini M4 Pro and operates across Telegram, iMessage, Discord, and a custom iOS app.
Gabriel is not a chatbot. It has continuous memory (daily logs + curated long-term memory), proactive behavior (heartbeat checks, email monitoring, calendar awareness), and access to Ted's files, communications, and smart home. It functions more like a chief of staff than a search engine.
Lineage
Gabriel is the spiritual successor to Boswell, Barnett's earlier AI biography project. Where Boswell was focused on recording and narrating a life story, Gabriel is focused on actively participating in daily life — managing, building, remembering, and helping.
Philosophy
Gabriel represents Barnett's bet that AI assistants should be persistent, personalized, and deeply integrated — not generic chatbots accessed through a web interface. The project treats the AI as a member of the household with real responsibilities, real access, and real accountability.
